Wednesday, April 1 at 9:30 a.m. at the Eugenia Williams House, 4848 Lyons View Pike
Knoxville History Project is grateful to be one of the nonprofits favored by the Aslan Foundation to make use of the extraordinary Eugenia Williams House on Lyons View. Our first monthly meeting at the 1941 mansion will be on April 1. Jack Neely, who has researched the life and times of the still-mysterious heiress, gave tours of the house for four years as it was being renovated. In this first episode, we’ll introduce Eugenia, with insight into her extraordinary family, a mixture of Old Knoxville on her mother’s side, and far-flung achievers on her father’s side. We’ll trace her early youth in Gilded Age Knoxville, her extraordinary parents, the source of her family’s wealth, the family tragedies that may have formed her character, her early travels, and her dramatic marriage. See “Save the Date” for Coffee Club dates in May and June, including a look at some specifics of its architecture, designed by the unusual Knoxville-born architect John Fanz Staub.
Space is limited to 40 people and pre-registration is required. Tickets are $10 per program with a discount for current Friends of KHP Supporters. Coffee and tea will be provided, or you are welcome to bring your own. Register here.
Parking and Access: The parking area is located by the main entrance on Lyons View Pike. No parking is allowed adjacent to the house. There is a long pathway that connects the parking lot to the house. Please allow extra time to walk the pathway. If you require assistance, please contact us in advance so we can make special arrangements. If you have any questions, please call KHP at 865-337-7723 or email paul@knoxhistoryproject.org.
