Riverside or Giffin Riverside pool was located on Island Home Avenue and built in 1944. In 1965, the city of Knoxville began leasing the privately owned pool as a public pool because of the closure of the 6th Avenue pool. Riverside pool was closed in 1976 after a chlorine tank explosion.
1969, I’m sad to say. I absolutely LOVED this place. I had moved from McClung Ave to the other side of Chapman Hwy in Colonial Village..down the road from the Kay’s Ice Cream Parlor.
