I would walk to ms Brice house on groner where she would give me private lessons in her sunroom porch using tempera paint. She was retired at that point. I was in elementary school or middle and I would enjoy her house full of canvases everywhere and I would help with light housework. My parents and ms Brice were friends. My first art teacher. She passed away a year or so later. I continue to paint and to teach art myself. Only recently did I learn she lived such a full and creative life during a time when her gifts and talents had limited venues. She was a very kind and caring woman I remember.
Ms Bowden…I just read some comments that you posted online about Ruth Brice but I don’t know how old the post is or if this link will reach you. I grew up in Knoxvile and of course my family and I are deeply rooted in Knoxville history and I’m curious about one of Ms Brice’s paintings. If you receive this message I would love to share more details and explain my interest.
I’m sure we probably know each other’s family.
I look forward to your reply.
Thank you
