We’ll be at the annual outdoor party known as Vestival, a celebration of South Knoxville’s historic Vestal community, known for its industrial heritage, as the site of a major lumber mill and the city’s most famous marble works—and especially the unique marble Candoro building. One of architect Charles Barber’s most unusual creations, it was built in 1923 to showcase a few dozen varieties of marble, but could pass for a few centuries older. We’ll be there, with a shady tent, and even more books and other historical curiosities than last year. We always enjoy Vestival, but are especially interested in taking part this year, as we research our upcoming book, “Historic South Knoxville.” If you have good stories, or, better yet, interesting pictures of South Knoxville from any era, come by and let us know.
