Island Home Postcard, circa 1900. (Knoxville History Project.)
Please join us as we partner with the Knox County Museum of Education for a community engagement program on the history of South Knoxville. Come and hear some south-side stories, and share your own, all to inform our new book about this unique and complex part of the city.
KHP is seeking interesting photographs or materials on the history of South Knoxville, including old buildings, farms, schools, and churches that are long gone. Plus, we’re also looking for written memoirs and neighborhood histories to supplement ones we already have copies of, including Island Home Park, Alcoa Highway/Maryville Pike/Lakemoor Hills, and Topside Road.
Following the program, we invite you to tour the Knox County Museum of Education, which showcases the history of local schools through yearbooks, histories, displays and memorabilia.
Free program. Please contact KHP at 865-337-7723 or email contract@knoxhistoryproject.org for further details.
