Enjoy a local beer at our next Maple Hall event – and learn about the surprisingly dramatic story of local beer. Knoxville’s history of breweries begins near the close of the Civil War, and over the next 40-odd years, involved dozens of brewers, many of them German immigrants. We’ll look at new research into Knoxville’s very earliest known brewers, share an ancient Knoxville recipe for beer (got some molasses?), show some rare images of our breweries, explain the melancholy story of what happened to the last one, and connect local beer brewing to a significant figure in baseball history. Free program. Food and drinks available for purchase.
