UT’s Clarence Brown Theatre is presenting a new production of the legendary play, Inherit the Wind, part of UT’s centennial commemoration of the Scopes “Monkey Trial” in Dayton, Tenn. If you come to the Sunday performance, stay afterward for a panel discussion of the historical context that will include our own Jack Neely, who has studied Knoxville’s connections to that watershed trial, especially in terms of the defense team and several nationally notable journalists who were in the room. Other panelists will be UT Professor Ernie Freeberg, author and one of the founding board members of KHP; the play’s director, Katie Lupica; Beauvais Lyons, divisional dean of Arts and Humanities and an artist who has been sometimes playfully interpreting the issues concerning the Scopes trial for many years; and theater-history professor Dr. Gina Di Salvo.
