Join the Knoxville History Project for a two-day symposium to celebrate the 100th anniversary of when Knoxville leaders and outdoor enthusiasts took an idea by Annie Davis and created a remarkable grassroots movement to establish a new national park in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Renowned historians and authors will tell the stories of the Knoxville civic leaders, conservationists, and trailblazers who led pioneering efforts, against all odds, to make the new national park a reality.
Featuring presentation by Jack Neely and Paul James with the Knoxville History Project, plus respected Smokies’ authors, including David Brill, Daniel S. Pierce and Ken Wise, and Janine Winfree with the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image & Sound.
This event will be free, but registration is required.
The Symposium on Friday is now full. Walking tours are full on both days.
As of July 17, only 21 spots remaining for Symposium on Saturday
Please join us for the Friday Evening event at the Bijou Theatre – free event, no registration necessary.
Location: East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay Street, Knoxville, TN 37902.
