William Hastie

William H. Hastie (1904-1976), became the first first African American Federal Judge in 1937, and the first African American governor, U.S. Virgin Islands, 1946-49. A South Knoxville park is name for him, William Hastie Natural Area, on Sevierville Pike. (Library of Congress.)
