All the buildings on Wall Street (formerly Asylum Avenue) were demolished during the 1970s to make room for the new headquarters of the Tennessee Valley Authority. The St. James Hotel (here just right of center) had a studio in the 1929 where remarkable music was recorded including Leola Manning, Maynard Baird and His Southern Serenaders, and Howard "Louie Bluie" Armstrong and the Tennessee Chocolate Drops.
