In 2019, the Knoxville History Project plans to focus and achieve the following:
CORE PROGRAMS
Plus, encouraging exploration and discovery of the city’s stories and places through “Historic Knoxville: The Curious Visitor’s Guide to its Stories and Places” and the online narrative-based repository, the Knoxville History Portal.
The Mayors of Knoxville (now funded by the City of Knoxville): As a fee-for-service project for the City of Knoxville, KHP will produce an engaging look at the 80 men, and one woman, who have served as Mayor of Knoxville throughout the city’s lively 227 year history. The publication will tie in with the restoration of the City’s mayoral portrait collection.
New Historical Story Collection: Thanks to a new grant, KHP will research and produce a brand new compilation of researched historical stories for publication in the fall.
SEEKING FUNDING FOR:
Downtown Literary Guide: Highlighting Nikki Giovanni, James Agee, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Cormac McCarthy and others, complementing Knox Heritage’s architecturally-focused and popular self-directed Downtown Walking Tour Guide.
Community History of Bearden: Researching and producing a book and other media tie-ins for a comprehensive history of this west Knoxville community.
Downtown Art Wraps: Continuing KHP’s public art and history initiative with new sponsored art wraps throughout town.
Making Our Publication Available to the Public: Producing hardcover editions of all KHP’s publications for the Knox County Public Library.
